First edition of the art study "The Art of Byzantium" by English archaeologist and art historian David Talbot Rice, with photographs by Max Hirmer, published by Thames and Hudson in London in 1959. David Talbot Rice led the excavations of the Great Palace of Constantinople from 1952 to 1954 and later participated in the revelation and restoration of the Byzantine frescoes in the Hagia Sophia of Trebizond.
